AFC Cup: Shabab Al-Khaleel take lead into second leg against Al-Suwaiq

A second half fight back saw Shabab Al-Khaleel capture an important victory in the first leg of their 2017 AFC Cup playoff vs. Al-Suwaiq.

The Omani side gained access to the competition vis-a-vis their status as runners up in the Omani League last season. Shabab Al-Khaleel for their part were crowned WBPL champions in 2015/16 with relative ease.

Both sides have had a tough time of it lately with neither side mounting anything close to resembling a title challenge. Al-Suwaiq are just above the relegation zone while Shabab Al-Khaleel are a whopping 14 points off the pace set by Hilal Al-Quds.

To put it simply, this was a must win for both teams.

Pots set for 2019 AFC Asian Cup Qualifying

No mysteries remain with ten days until the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying draw. The powers that be have finally given Kuwait their marching orders after over a year of moratoriums that failed to keep their 2018 FIFA World Cup dreams alive.

As per our sources, Kuwait have missed yet another deadline set by the Asian Football Confederation to resolve its status within FIFA. The Kuwait FA and Olympic committee were both suspended in October 2015 due to government involvement in sporting affairs.

We can confirm that Macau- courtesy of their runner up status at the Solidarity Cup will replace Kuwait at this month's draw. Nepal, winners of the inaugural competition for developing Asian federations, replaced Guam after the Pacific islanders withdrew citing financial difficulty.

Shabab Al-Khaleel crash out of the Arab Club Championship

It was a game that was a microcosm of Shabab Al-Khaleel's struggles this season- a lack of concentration and an inability to convert scoring chances saw the far more experienced Al-Ahed through to the playoff round of the Arab Club Championship.

Kuwait formally excluded from Asian Cup Qualifying

Kuwait's participation in the 2019 Asian Cup formally came to a close today with the FIFA council deciding not to lift its ban on the West Asian nation.

Kuwait was initially banned by FIFA in October 2015 but the AFC held off on making any official decision regarding their qualifying games at the stage. Instead giving Kuwait leeway to get its house in order. Twelve months ago, Kuwait forfeited a match against Laos but still had time to play its final two 2018 World Cup/2019 Asian Cup qualifiers against Myanmar and Korea Republic in March 2016.

Shabab Al-Khaleel Fall to Al-Ahed

Toufic Ali the villain once again.
Shabab Al-Khaleel fell to a 1-0 defeat to Al-Ahed in the first leg preliminary playoff of the Arab Club Championship.

The host's 53rd goal came courtesy of a Toufic Ali blunder who spilled an innocuous ball into the path of Mohammed Kdouh. A mixup between Muamin Eghbarieh and Ali allowed the Al-Ahed to slot home for the 1-0 advantage.

Shabab Al-Khaleel were given a lifeline when Mahdi Fhas was sent off in the 68th minute.

In the absence of national team players Ashraf Nu'man, Alexis Norambuena, and Pablo Tamburrini Shabab could not mount a serious threat on goal despite their numerical advantage.

The encounter now shifts to the return leg which will be held in Amman due to Al-Ahed refusal to travel to Palestine on political grounds. That match is slated for next Thursday, January 12th.
